Review: Voodoo Vixen Lilian Dress

With a beautiful floral pattern and flattering cut, Voodoo Vixen’s Lilian Dress is a great choice for all summer occasions – whether you want to dress up for a wedding or play it cool for a picnic in the park! The fit and flare style of this dress along with its distinctive neckline is a modern take on a 50s classic.

Voodoo Vixen are an East London retro inspired clothing label, selling vintage reproduction pieces for modern day folks, who are in love with the past. Reproduction is a great way to enjoy the perks of delicate vintage designs without the struggle of finding an affordable piece which fits, flatters and is good enough quality for every day wear. The label stocks an array of retro inspired dresses, jumpsuits, tops and bottoms, as well as cute accessories, for the perfect pin-up look. I’ve been wanting to try something from their range for a while now and often find myself drooling over their gorgeous creations before remembering my waning student budget.

The stunning floral print and striking neckline is what first drew me to the Lilian Dress and I was not disappointed when she arrived on my doorstep. The subtlety of the beige contrasts nicely with the vibrant flowers giving an almost tropical vibe. The interesting neckline and lowered back detailing takes modern twist on a vintage style. Being 96% cotton and 3% elastane, the fabric gives a comfortable stretch, whilst allowing you to keep cool on warm summer days. The dress could be worn with a petticoat for a full-skirt effect, however I decided to wear it without on this occasion due to the hot weather.

I went for a size XL, which according to the Voodoo Vixen size guide is a UK 14. Usually being a 16 I had my reservations, but thanks to the stretch the dress fits snug whilst still flattering my figure. Like all of their standard range, the Lillian dress runs from a size S–XL (6–14), however a plus size Vixen Curve range is also available, featuring some equally beautiful pieces.

This well-made and exquisitely designed dress is certainly worth the £49.99 price tag and will be a staple in my retro-style summer wardrobe.
