In my last review I discussed a beautiful 1940s style dress from Vivien of Holloway. Well, today I’m following up with a review of this cream and green slash neck top and green 1940s swing trouser trousers set, also from Vivien of Holloway.
Like the dress, the trousers and top are also high quality, with the trousers being made of a nice polyester/cotton blend and the top a thick jersey. This makes for a comfortable but chic outfit. I particularly like the material of the slash neck top as I find that a lot of jersey items are too thin and flimsy – not the case with this top. Like with the dress I reviewed last time, I also found these items ironed really nicely – a definite positive in my book as I don’t have the time to spend ironing things that are creased again by the time you’re finished.
I found that at 5’5” tall I need a small heel with the trousers in order to prevent them dragging on the ground. The waist of the trousers sits at the natural waistline which is very flattering and in keeping with the authentic vintage style of the items. The side button detailing at the waist adds extra interest and helps give the trousers a very 1940s look. In fact, these particular trousers are based on an original 1940s pattern, making them a very authentic looking reproduction item to add to your vintage wardrobe.
The items match perfectly but also make great staples for mixing-and-matching with other items for a variety of looks. The slash neckline on the top is unusual and flattering although I do find it has a tendency to bunch up a little on me (which may be due to my particular body shape). However it’s not a huge problem and doesn’t seem to happen at all if I wear a cardigan over the top.
I really like the fit of both of the items, and the waistband of the trousers fits my own waist nicely without needing a belt. I like the stylish tailored look of the trousers which is still evident despite how windy it was on the beach when the photos were taken!

The trousers are priced at £55 and the top retails at £35 and are both made in London as with all Vivien of Holloway clothing.
