Screen Goddess Summer Style – Part One

It’s time to make sure you have all your key pieces in place for (hopefully) a long hot summer. To help me stay stylish in the heat, I’m taking my summer inspiration from the screen goddesses.

First up – sunglasses, an absolute must and thankfully the cat eye is back in style this summer so all the high street stores seem to have their own versions. These are my top picks.

For days when you need a bit of a cover up for your head, a headscarf is a great way to go, either worn like Marilyn did with her shades, or go a bit more boho and wear it like Brigit Bardot.

Any square scarf will do, they are so versatile and can be worn so many ways to add instant glamour to any outfit; you always find plenty in vintage shops for a good price. If you fancy splashing out, this one by Ralph Lauren is quite lovely.

I also love to tidy my locks away a la Betty Grable in a crochet snood. I have several from Gin Poodle on Etsy, and as well as keeping your hair off your neck, it’s creates a lovely look especially with victory rolls or a rolled fringe.

High-waisted shorts are a lovely option when it heats up, worn to great effect here by Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. The plaid shirt and shorts combo is such a crisp look.

I love this 1940s culotte style on Rita Hayworth, although they aren’t as easy to find unless you have a nosy on Etsy where a few people have originals and reproductions.
